Amazon acquires Israeli startup E8 Storage to strengthen cloud capabilities

Amazon has announced that it has acquired E8 Storage, an Israeli startup that provides rack-scale flash storage for enterprise and software-defined cloud.

Amazon has acquired E8 Storage, an Israeli startup that provides rack-scale flash storage for enterprise and software-defined cloud.

According to reports by Reuters and CNBC, the purchase will allow Amazon to merge E8’s technology and team with its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

In total, the startup has raised around $18.3mn in funding, according to Crunchbase.

Amazon’s cloud computing unit is a crucial part of the firm’s business. 

In 2018,AWS controlled 47.8% of the public cloud market, while Microsoft and Alibaba held 15.5% and 7.7% respectively, according to Gartner reports. 

In recent years, Amazon has made a series of investments to strengthen its cloud business.

In January, the company acquired TSO Logic, a Vancouver-based startup that helps companies manage their cloud resources effectively, a well as disaster recovery company CloudEndure.
