Aetherpal’s technology allows IT teams to remotely view, control, troubleshoot and fix devices that are being used in the field. This ensures businesses can remotely support IoT and endpoint devices.
VMware said the deal will boost the capabilities of its platform VMware WorkspaceOne, which also provides support for remote devices.
Shankar Iyer, senior vice president and general manager of End-User Computing at VMware, said that, as businesses and employees continue to use a greater number of devices, this poses greater challenges for IT service desks.
“These challenges are also significant for organizations managing purpose-built and ruggedized devices used in mission-critical operations out in the field, factory, warehouse or retail store.” he wrote.
“Given these trends, remote support capabilities are increasingly critical to successful workforce transformation initiatives and a key technical requirement for a digital workspace platform.”
Since 2017, VMware has resold AetherPal’s Remote Support solution as an add-on to its own platform, VMware Workspace One, and it says it is “being used by some of the largest device deployments in the world”.
Iyer also believes that the deal will help to drive significant time and costs savings for IT, improve security and enhance the employee experience.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
