Verizon and SAP are throwing in together on 5G-powered, real time data gathering and analytics solutions for enterprises.
As one of the US’ largest telecom companies, Verizon is racing to introduce 5G coverage across the country ahead of its rivals. Tomorrow, Chicago will become the fifth city in the US to have access to Verizon’s 5G internet offering, which promises typical speeds of 300 Mbps and peak speeds of 1 Gbps on the first commercially available Wi-Fi 6 router complete with parental controls, a powerful 10W speaker with Bluetooth playback and Wi-Fi capability.
The company is banking on the mass adoption of 5G to massively raise the saturation of smart devices in every home, making its wifi router into a home entertainment hub, as streaming and OTT media gains ground on the market shares of cable and satellite TV.
“With the new 5G Home Internet router, you can download movies in seconds versus minutes. Gamers get low latency for a better gaming experience, and there’s plenty of bandwidth for a family of streamers or those who want to outfit their pad with the latest smart home gadgets,” wrote Verizon in a press release.
It’s not just the home that Verizon wants to make smarter. As a result, the company announced today that it’s partnering with SAP to collaborate on new solutions for the 5G-enabled business that will provide users with real time data processing, multi-sensor capabilities for supply chain solutions, field service management, assembly line and retail operations.
